Kapalbhati Pranayama

Dhauti, Basti, Neti, Trataka, Nauli and Kapalbhati are the six cleansing process in Hatha Yoga. They are technique of purification. Kapalbhati means an exercise that makes the forehead shining.

The specific organs or the parts of the body are cleaned by these practices. Kapalbhati having a chief characteristics feature of cleansing the nasal passage in the skull.

Yoga believes that there are not only physical impurities but mental and psychological impurities also, which cause blockages in the function of nervous system, if they are not thrown out they would create imbalance in different functions and ultimately prepare a base for various diseases like asthma, insomnia, acidity and kidney stone.

Kapalbhati is essentially a voluntary abdominal breathing.

Benefits
This Pranayama is useful for Kundalini awakening.

The oxygen consumption increases due to increased work of breathing, consequently, Carbon dioxide is eliminated in large quantity from the blood. Oxygen consumption increases by 10-40 percent.

Kapalbhati not only clears the respiratory passage but keeps it free from impurities and mucus.

It gives excellent massage to the abdominal organs and improves digestion.

It cure insomnia and sleep apnea problem.

Kapalbhati will throw out all the foreign elements from your body and induces inner awareness.

This Pranayam reduce belly fat faster and clean respiratory system.

Regular practice of Kapalbhati also cure acidity, constipation and gastric problem.

Kapalbhati will improve your digestion and control your hunger.


Precuations
Pregnant women must not do it.
Those who have heart trouble or high blood pressure should not do this Pranayama.

If you are beginner, always practice in-front of Yoga Guru or Yoga Teacher.

Patient with epilepsy, stomach tumor, and nervousness should avoid this Pranayama.

In case there is sense of suffocation at any stage of this Pranayama, stop the practice and consult the Yoga expert/teacher.

This will remove unnecessary air from your lungs and easiest way to throw out bacterias from your body.


Technique

  • Sit in Padamasana or Sukhasana.

  • Place your hands to your knee and your hands either in Gyana Mudra or Chin Mudra.

  • Keep the chest, neck, and head straight.

  • Inhale gently and exhale rapidly from your abdomen, while exhaling your can squeeze your abdomen volunteerly. Your mouth must be closed in this Pranayama.

  • Perform exhalation actively and inhalation passively.

  • Repeat this process for 3 minutes, and practice three rounds of Kapalbhati, each round should be minimum for three minutes.

  • After finishing, relax yourself for minimum 30 seconds; while relaxing bring all your attention to Anahat Chakra.
